Swedish Massage
Swedish massage therapy is the modality that comes to mind when most people think about massage. One of the primary goals of the Swedish massage technique is to relax the entire body. This is accomplished by rubbing the muscles with long gliding strokes in the direction of blood returning to the heart. But Swedish massage therapy goes beyond relaxation. Swedish massage is exceptionally beneficial for increasing the level of oxygen in the blood, decreasing muscle toxins, improving circulation and flexibility while easing tension.
Deep Tissue Massage
Deep tissue massage therapy is similar to Swedish massage, but the deeper pressure is beneficial in releasing chronic muscle tension. The focus is on the deepest layers of muscle tissue, tendons and fascia (the protective layer surrounding muscles, bones and joints).
Lymphatic
Lymph drain is a type of gentle massage which is intended to encourage the natural drainage of the lymph, which carries waste products away from the tissues back toward the heart. This modality is helpful in treating edema, issues of digestion, surgical patients, fibromyaliga and chronic fatigue sufferers, as well as those wanting a fresh look may want to consider lymphatic massage. Lymph massage can benefit just about everyone. If you're feeling tired and low on energy, or if you've been sick and feeling like your body is fighting to get back on track, lymph massage would likely serve you well.
Cupping
Cupping involves placing a glass cup on the skin, and creating a vacuum by suctioning out the air. The underlying tissue is raised, or sucked, partway into the cup. The purpose of cupping is to enhance circulation, help relieve pain, remove "heat" and pull out the toxins that linger in your body's tissues. Cupping has numerous benefits — it can help remove toxins from the body and stimulate the flow of fresh blood, lymph, and Qi to the affected area and throughout the body. It often works wonders for patients with the flu, colds, coughs, back and muscle pain, poor circulation, anxiety
Prenatal Massage
Massage relieves many of the normal discomforts experienced during pregnancy, such as backaches, stiff neck, leg cramps, headaches and edema (or swelling). In addition, massage for pregnant women reduces stress on weight-bearing joints, encourages blood and lymph circulation, helps to relax nervous tension -- which aids in better sleep -- and can help relieve depression or anxiety caused by hormonal changes.
Infant Massage
Massage can stimulate circulatory and digestive systems, hormonal and immune systems, coordination and balance, learning and concentration, muscular development and growth, mind and body awareness. Parents may find that Infant Massage helps relieve: gas and colic, constipation and elimination, growing pains and muscular tension, teething discomfort, cramps, improved sleep patterns, increased flexibility and muscle tone, regulation of behavioral states and reduction in stress hormones.
Trigger Point
A trigger point is a tight area within muscle tissue that causes pain in other parts of the body. A trigger point in the back, for example, may produce referral pain in the neck. The neck, now acting as a satellite trigger point, may then cause pain in the head. The pain may be sharp and intense or a dull ache.
Hot Stone Therapy
Combining hot stone protocols with a full body massage provides a very healing and effective experience. The hot stones also expand blood vessels, which encourages blood flow throughout the body. The hot stones have a sedative effect that can relieve chronic pain, reduce stress and promote deep relaxation.
Berry Method®
Postural Balancing - The Berry Method® is unique, a corrective technique, utilizing muscle, ligament or organ positioning. It: 1) removes adhesions that create irritation, tension, poor circulation, and reduces strength and flexibility. 2) aligns the soft and hard tissues across joints in the body and makes movement 'roller bearing' smooth and quick. 3) corrects the alignment of bony members by correcting the alignment of soft tissue structures that hold them. The result is a reclamation of the strength, flexibility, relaxation, and fluid ease of movement we had as kids. We then recommend activities, stretching and exercise that will maintain the newfound freedom of movement.
**I am Berry Method® apprentice, under the tutelage of Lynn Van Norman. A Berry Method® apprentice is a student who has committed to working one-on-one with a certified Berry Method teacher over a period of years. An apprentice works frequently in the teacher's office to gain knowledge of all the principles of the body of knowledge taught by the late Lauren Berry. An apprentice generally spends no less than seven years and sometimes longer to reach certification as a Berry Method® Practitioner.
